Magbo Eats: Gluten Free Food The Whole Family Will Love
Several years ago when it was determined that I had a gluten intolerance, there was not an abundance of good tasting packaged gluten free foods in stores. In fact, I do not even remember there being a good bread. And then I discovered Udi’s. Thank goodness for Udi’s!!! I could finally have a sandwich again, and toast again, and the list goes on. Having a good gluten free bread made being gluten free doable. Since then, new brands of gluten free bread keep popping up in stores and I want to share my favorites with you. Each is unique and I like them each for different reasons.
Did you know Whole Foods has its own Gluten Free brand? Yep, it does and it is darn good! I love the Gluten Free Bakehouse “Light White Sandwich Bread” that is found in Whole Foods’ freezer section. Soft, light, and dairy free it is! It has a slight sweetness to it that will have you wanting to make a special trip over to Whole Foods. My favorite way to enjoy the WH gluten free bread? Smothered with butter and raspberry jam.
A piece of Udi’s bread is smaller in size than an average piece of bread, and I prefer to eat it toasted. It is a fantastic sandwich bread, in fact it is my favorite bread for a chicken salad sandwich paired with a bowl of soup. I can find Udi’s at Target, my local grocery stores, and specialty grocery stores in the freezer section. An added bonus for many is that in addition to being wheat free, it is dairy, soy, & nut free. Woohoo!
Soft, yummy, and 100% whole grains is non other than Canyon Bakehouse gluten free “Mountain White” bread. It has the light, fluffy texture that is similar to a bread made with wheat. Excellent for a pb & j! I pick up this tasty No GMO, Gluten free, dairyfree, soy free, & nut free bread at my local Target in the bakery section.
Lastly, Target’s Simply Balanced gluten Free white bread tastes like the closest thing to good old fashioned gluten filled Wonder Bread. This would be a great bread for kids who need to eliminate gluten from their diets and are used to eating breads made with wheat. My favorite way to eat this bread? So glad you asked… slightly toasted and slathered with Nutella. It tastes like a chocolate glazed donut! Go ahead and try it, you will thank me! The best thing about the Simply Balanced bread is that it is free of artificial flavors, colors, and preservatives. Find it at your local Target in the bakery section.
Now that I have shared some of my favorites, I would love to hear what your favorite gluten free store bought bread is. I do know that gluten free products often vary depending on where you live and some of you have fantastic local bakeries. Please share your favorites in the comments.
